Albay: Tiwi Church

Located in the municipality of Tiwi in the province of Albay, Tiwi Church was constructed sometime in the mid 17th century. The church is also called San Lorenzo Church.

During the 17th century, Christianity was spreading throughout the region. The people of Tiwi was one of those who open-heartedly accepted Christianity as their religion. The church became the symbol of the villagers' piety. The townspeople were mainly fishermen, farmers, and potters. That's why they were overwhelmed when the Moslem pirates or Moros raided and burned down the town. Tiwi Church was a silent witness to the horrible acts that the Moros had inflicted to the townspeople.

Like most churches in Albay, I visited Tiwi Church during the Albay Road Trip that I had with the family.

The nice thing about Tiwi Church is its wide parking space, The church is also located meters away from the main road, which gives the church a more solemn atmosphere. However,  in my opinion, the caretakers or whoever is in charge of taking care of the church should plant Bermuda grass around the church to further boost the beauty of the church. The dry ground in its vicinity makes the church more humid, especially on a hot summer day.

Getting there:

By air: 
1. Most airline companies offer flights to Legazpi Domestic Airport.
2. Upon reaching Legazpi City's Terminal, take a van going to Tiwi. Tell the driver to drop you off at Tiwi Church.

By land:
1. Ride a bus going to Legazpi City.

2. Upon reaching Legazpi City's Terminal, take a van going to Tiwi. Tell the driver to drop you off at Tiwi Church.

Our adventure today takes us to a mountain south of Metro Manila. Mt. Gulugod Baboy  (other variations Mt. Gulugod-Baboy ) is located in Anilao, Mabini in the province of Batangas. Located at the poblacion of Calaca in the province of Batangas, Calaca Church is one of the Spanish colonial era churches of the province. Calaca Church -  St. Raphael the Archangel Parish Church Calaca Church History Also known as St. Raphael the Archangel Parish Church , Calaca Church was said to be founded in 1836 which was a year after the establishment of the town of Calaca. The church was built from the collective sacrifices and efforts of the townspeople of the town. It was said that the men and women of Calaca gathered the materials needed to build the church from the town of Balayan. Using their bancas or small riverboats, they hauled the sand, stone, wood, adobe, and limestone and brought them to Calaca via the Pansipit River.
