La Paz Sand Dunes - Ilocos Norte

Located near Laoag City, the capital of Ilocos Norte, La Paz Sand Dunes is widely known as the Desert of the North.

La Paz Sand Dunes covers an area of approximately 85 square kilometers. It is locally known as Bantay Bimmaboy. With an elevation that ranges from 10 to 30 meters, La Paz Sand Dunes has a very appealing panoramic view of the West Philippine Sea.

With its unique landscape, typical to those in the Middle Eastern countries, La Paz Sand Dunes has become a popular site for shooting local and foreign films. This might be due to the cheaper production cost compared to those of the Middle Eastern counterparts.

Great place to do some modeling

Some of the local films shot in the area are Panday, Himala, and Temptation Island. Portions of the Hollywood films like Born in the Fourth of July and Mad Max were also shot in the sand dunes.

Today, La Paz Sand Dunes is gaining a new form of popularity because of the newly introduced sport of sandboarding.

My wife and I decided to join the fray but the heat of the sun quickly zapped our will to do so. We decided to have a photoshoot instead.

La Paz Sand Dunes Entrance Fee:

It's FREE to enter and explore La Paz Sand Dunes if you're on foot. However, there is an option to ride a 4x4 which will cost you 2500 PHp (good for 4-5 pax). This comes with unlimited sandboarding. You also have an option to rent an ATV. this costs 2000 PHp per hour.

La Paz Sand Dunes Opening Hours:

La Paz Sand Dunes is always open. However, the ATV rental and sandboarding activity is open from 8AM (sometimes earlier) to 6PM or until there is still light.

Why visit La Paz Sand Dunes?

La Paz Sand Dunes is a destination worth visiting when you are in Ilocos Norte. It's one of the unique destinations in the Philippines that offers fun and exciting activities such as sandboarding and ATV rides that are worth trying as well. 

Getting to La Paz Sand Dunes:


From Manila board a bus heading to Laoag City. From there La Paz Sand Dunes could be reached by tricycle or jeepney.

If you want, you could rent a 4-wheel-drive to tour you around the sand dunes. This costs around 2500PHp for 4 - 5 people.

    I've been there but Doesn't have enough time to enter La Paz sand dunes. I arrived there around 5pm. Hopefully I can make it someday.

Our adventure today takes us to a mountain south of Metro Manila. Mt. Gulugod Baboy  (other variations Mt. Gulugod-Baboy ) is located in Anilao, Mabini in the province of Batangas. Located at the poblacion of Calaca in the province of Batangas, Calaca Church is one of the Spanish colonial era churches of the province.
