Overshadowed by the fame of the Banaue Rice Terraces, the Amgaleyguey Vegetable Terraces are rarely visited by tourists. As a matter of fact, you won't see it in any travel blogs or tourist books. To those who have seen this place, they can attest that it is equally beautiful as its counterparts in Ifugao.

What makes Amgaleyguey Vegetable Terraces unique is the obvious fact that vegetables are the crops planted on the terraces instead of rice. What makes it more unique are the above-ground tombs that dot the terraces like dandruff on a green shirt from a distance.

 The culture of burying relatives on the terraces dates to the pre-Spanish period. Practicality would suggest that since the indigenous people live on mountaintops, it would be a great burden to transport a deceased loved one down a mountain for burial. What they did instead was bury them in their backyards. Evidently, this culture is still practiced today, not only in Amgaleyguey but also in other parts of Benguet and Mountain Province.

Now, if you're going to ask me if that has an effect on the crops, my simple answer is "They eat their own harvests. Go figure." Speaking of harvests, cabbages and carrots are the common vegetables planted in the terraces. The ones harvested here are twice the size of those sold in Manila. Go figure...

 The best place to view these picturesque terraces is at the Amgaleyguey View Deck. It is located on the side of the Bukod-Kabayan-Bugias-Abatan Road. Although no tours would bring you here, you can still get a chance to see it when you go to Sagada from Baguio or vice versa. I got the chance to see Amgaleyguey Vegetable Terraces when we were going back home from our Sagada Tour. Our van driver made a short stopover to show us this beautiful place.

 Overall, the local government should aggressively promote their place by creating tour or adventure packages. For sure, a lot of people would want that.

No travel tours would bring you to Amgaleygey, you only get a chance to see it when you go to Sagada from Baguio or vice versa. I got the chance to see Amgaleyguey Vegetable Terraces when we were going back home from our Sagada Tour. Our van driver made a short stopover to show us this beautiful place.

Located at the poblacion of Calaca in the province of Batangas, Calaca Church is one of the Spanish colonial era churches of the province. The church was built from the collective sacrifices and efforts of the townspeople of the town. Our adventure today takes us to a mountain south of Metro Manila. Mt. Gulugod Baboy  (other variations Mt. Gulugod-Baboy ) is located in Anilao, Mabini in the province of Batangas.
