Cavite: Tierra de Maria

Located in Tagaytay City in the province of Cavite, Tierra de Maria is one of the several religious sites in the city.

Tierra de Maria is famously known for the 50-foot statue of the Virgin Mary. It is also a sanctuary garden where one could visit to reflect and pray. A small chapel is also housed in the Tierra de Maria vicinity near (actually inside) the giant statue of the Virgin Mary. A mass is regularly held in it and everyone is invited to come. What I like about the chapel are the beautifully carved wooden sculptures displayed in it.

Devotees of the Virgin Mary consider Tierra de Maria as the HOME of the Blessed Virgin Mary. HOME here refers to Haven Of Meditation and Enrichment. These devotees regularly visit Tierra de Maria to offer prayers and also their time.

Visitors could also go up a concrete stairway leading to the top of the 50-foot statue. Don't worry though, there is a flat area on top of the statue where one could view the majestic Taal Volcano.
You can offer a Prayer of Forgiveness here.

Before leaving Tierra de Maria, you could buy some religious souvenirs in its souvenir shop located near the entrance/exit area. Some vendors also sell Tagaytay merchandise there too.
Looking at the higher ground

Overall, Tierra de Maria is a must visit place for people going on a pilgrimage and also for those who are looking for a quiet place to meditate and enrich their souls.

Getting there:

From Manila, head to the Coastal Mall bus terminal. Ride a bus going to Tagaytay or Nasugbu. Board down at the Tagaytay rotunda and hope on a trike or Jeep going to People's Park or Picnic Grove. Tell the driver to drop you off at Tierra de Maria which is quite near Picnic Grove.
