10 Things to Do in Chitose City Chitose ( 千歳市 ) is a city in the Ishikari Subprefecture of Hokkaido, Japan . Chitose was originally named shikot in the Ainu language, which means " big depression or hollow ," similar to Lake Shikotsu, which is a caldera lake. This sounded too much like dead bones (死骨, shikotsu ) in Japanese, so it was altered to Chitose. 10 Things to Do in Date City Date ( 伊達市 ) is a city in the Iburi Subprefecture of Hokkaido, Japan . The name of the city comes from the Watari Date Clan who settled in the Tohoku region in the early Meiji period. For those planning to visit Date City to check what it has to offer, here are the 10 Things to Do in Date : Former Ohtaki village manhole cover 1. Take a picture of the manhole cover of Date City . So far, I have seen one unique manhole cover. It was the manhole cover of the former village of Ohtaki which merged with Date City in 2006. I saw this during our stay at Midorinokaze Resort Kitayuzawa . Date Roadside Station 2. 10 Things to Do in Sobetsu Sobetsu ( 壮瞥町 ) is a town in the Iburi Subprefecture of Hokkaido, Japan . The name of the town was derived from the Ainu name of the current Sobetsu River, " so-pet " which means waterfall/river. For those planning to visit Sobetsu to check what it has to offer, here are the 10 Things to Do in Sobetsu : Sobetsu Roadside Station  /  Roadside Station Sobetsu Johokan   I 1. Visit the  Sobetsu Roadside Station  /  Roadside Station Sobetsu Johokan   I and buy products that are produced or made in the town. 10 Things to Do in Toyako Toyako ( 洞爺湖町 ) is a town in the Iburi Subprefecture of Hokkaido, Japan . The town was formed after Abuta Town and Toya Village merged on March 27, 2006. The town was named after Lake Toya. Japanese settlers gave Lake Toya its name during the Meiji period after the Ainu word to ya, which means "lakeshore, the land around a lake." For those planning to visit Toyako to check what it has to offer, here are the 10 Things to Do in Toyako : Toyako Manhole Cover 1. Take a picture of the manhole cover of Toyako . 10 Things to Do in Akaigawa Akaigawa ( 赤井川村 ) is a village in the Shirebeshi Subprefecture of Hokkaido, Japan . The name of the village is derived from the Ainu word " Fure Bet " (red river) which is translated into Japanese. For those planning to visit Akaigawa to check what it has to offer, here are the 10 Things to Do in Akaigawa : Akaigawa Manhole Covers 1. Take a picture of the  manhole covers of Akaigawa .
