If you would notice, most of the churches that I feature in my Visita Iglesia articles are century-old churches. To date, I have featured only two modern-day churches - Nature's Church and St. Therese of the Child Jesus. I blogged those churches because of their unique structural designs. (You can click on the links to check them out.)

That is not the case for this church. Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Church has but a humble typical modern-day structural design. It doesn't have a majestic-looking facade, a towering bell tower, and an ornately designed retablo. So what makes the church stand out?

For the history buffs, the answer to that question is but an FYI trivia. For 8/10 Filipinos however, this church never existed. (not up until now that they have read this article.) For your information, Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Church played a very important role in the history of the Philippines. This church is the venue where two important historical figures were unified through the sanctity of marriage. (Still, don't know who they are? Ok here are some more hints.)

Former President Cory and Senator Ninoy tied the knot here.

These two would then have 5 children. one of whom would become a senator like his deceased father and later on would become the President of the Philippines like his deceased mother. With these hints, you'd probably guessed it right. The historical figures that I'm talking about are none other than Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. and Corazon "Cory" Aquino. Their son who was once a senator and then the 15th President of the Philippines is none other than Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III.

Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Church might not be as historic as the Spanish-Colonial era churches in the country but it remains to be a must-visit destination if you are on a pilgrimage or Visita Iglesia in Metro Manila. Who wouldn't want to visit the church where Former President Cory Aquino and the late Sen. Ninoy Aquino got married.

Our adventure today takes us to a mountain south of Metro Manila. Mt. Gulugod Baboy  (other variations Mt. Gulugod-Baboy ) is located in Anilao, Mabini in the province of Batangas. Day 5 May 21, 2018 Kyoto Adventure (Day 2) We woke up to yet another beautiful day here in Japan . The weather is great, perfect for our planned activities for today.  To familiarize ourselves with the place where we will live for another three days, our plan for today is to have a walking tour around Kyoto Station which is quite near our place. I told my wife that she should be prepared to walk the whole day and I'm happy that she agreed. (Well that's one less problem for me). Located in 48 Noboriojicho, Nara City in Nara Prefecture, Kohfukuji  ( 興福寺 ) is a Buddhist temple that serves as the national headquarters of the Hosso school of Buddhism.  Kohfukuji  ( 興福寺 ) Kohfukuji History Kohfukuji or simply Kofukuji was established in 669 by Kagami no Okimi in the hopes that it would please Buddha, which in turn, would help her husband Fujiwara no Kamatari recover from his illness.  The first temple was built in Yamashina, Yamashiro Province which is in present-day Kyoto. Then in 672, the temple was dismantled and moved to  Fujiwara-kyo as it was the first planned Japanese Capital. However, the temple was dismantled again and moved to its present location in 710.
